Where the weight goes during pregnancy....

Developing fetus 7 to 8 pounds
Placenta 1.5 to 2 pounds
Amniotic fluid 2 to 2.5 pounds
Increased uterine size 2.5 to 3 pounds
Breasts 2 to 3 pounds
Increased blood volume 3 to 3.5 pounds
Normal water retention 3 to 3.5 pounds
Total 21 to 25.5 pounds
